Science Idol lampoons the Bush administration

THE Bush administration has often been accused of attempting to control and distort the science of issues ranging from climate change to birth control. Now a pressure group plans to use satire to show that the administration is still up to its old tricks.

The Science Idol contest was announced on 2 June by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), which campaigns on environmental, health and military issues. It invites amateur cartoonists to make fun of the Bush administration’s interference in science. A second, parallel contest will give professional cartoonists a chance to take a shot at the subject.
