May we introduce ourselves and explain our aims? The New Scientist is published for all those who are interested in scientific discovery and in its industrial, commercial and social consequences. We who launch it believe we are doing so at a time when the need for such a magazine is obvious and urgent. We have been encouraged in our project by the approval – in many cases, the enthusiasm – of leaders of science and industry.
