Poor countries hold out for bird vaccine

Update 1559 GMT: In a joint statement, Indonesia and the World Health Organization have announced that Indonesia will resume sending samples of the H5N1 bird flu virus to WHO labs. In return the WHO will help in the “equitable distribution” of vaccines made from Indonesia’s viruses, and help the country find ways to make its own. The statement noted “Indonesia’s leadership” in alerting the world to developing countries’ need “to benefit from sharing virus samples, including access to quality pandemic vaccines.”
