Cosmologists hoping to decipher dark matter need to read between the galactic lines.

Mapping the whereabouts of dark matter by observing changes in the distribution of galaxies in clusters has proved very difficult. So rather than examining the clusters themselves, Jounghun Lee and Daeseong Park at Seoul National University in South Korea modelled the bubbles of almost empty space between them. They found that the shape of these voids is surprisingly sensitive to slight differences in the amount of dark matter (www.arxiv.org/astro-ph/0610520).
