17th-century physicist's secrets go online

The whole manuscript can be read online, and 10 key pages can be viewed as high-res photographs

This 300-year old page, and 600 more like it, offer a unique glimpse into the mind of Isaac Newton’s rival and contemporary – the English physicist Robert Hooke. Now they can be read, and some examined, over the internet.

Last year, the manuscript, written by Hooke, was found by chance in a cupboard in Hampshire and purchased by the Royal Society. High-resolution photographs were taken of 10 key pages and added to a 3D model of the book, using software developed by the British…
