Radiation exposure linked to heart disease

If a link with cancer wasn’t bad enough, radiation may be bad for your heart too. A review of 65,000 staff who worked in the UK’s nuclear industry between 1946 and 2002 has discovered a link between circulatory disease and staff who worked in high-exposure jobs. The increased risk is seen only in people who were employed at a time when the exposure limits were less strict.

For these workers, the chance of reaching the age of 70 was 2 per cent less than for those exposed to lower doses, according to a study carried out by Steve Jones…
