Moon’s new moons

A pair of probes designed to study Earth’s auroras are now circling the moon. Mission controllers sent them there after they finished their original mission in Earth orbit. One entered lunar orbit on 27 June and the other arrived on 17 July. Now called ARTEMIS, the two spacecraft will study the moon’s tenuous atmosphere and the solar wind’s interactions with the lunar surface.
