From wormholes to consciousness: see part of the great wall of science

Great wall of science

WE GAVE illustrator Josie Ford of Studio Jojo a 10-metre-long blank wall and asked her to fill it with the essence of our festival of science and technology, New Scientist Live. An almost impossible task, we thought, given that we had 120 speakers over six stages on four days, covering everything from space-time wormholes to altered forms of consciousness. But Ford was more than up to the task. Here we have captured just part of her canvas.

As she attended talks over the weekend, she made notes on the speakers’ big ideas and her favourite facts, before heading back to the wall to add her interpretation of the content. Below she has sketched her method: listen, take notes, visualise content, build a story. “Scribing is a brilliant tool to capture content live, breaking down complex information into something tangible, and visually engaging,” she says.
