I deeply admire Stephen Jay Gould’s limpid writing, polemical verve and his extensive cultural knowledge that allows the reader to relate seemingly disconnected facts. I read The Flamingo’s Smile 30 years ago and will have the great pleasure of rereading it on holiday.
