Alexis Wnuk is the subeditor for New Scientist in New York. She enjoys writing about neuroscience, health and the environment and loves a good data visualisation. Before joining New Scientist, she was the staff writer for BrainFacts.org, and she has also written for Men's Health and Pitt Med magazine. She has degrees in neuroscience and English from the University of Pittsburgh.

The architecture of the five-story Kenneth C. Griffin Exploration Atrium in the new Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation is inspired by natural Earth processes of wind and water and the ways in which they shape landscapes that are exciting to explore.
